Q&A: All You Need to Know

  • For Patients

What technology is available on the Mobile Mammography vehicles?

On board both of our Mobile Mammography Coaches, patients are screened with the same high-caliber technology found in any of our brick-and-mortar imaging centers. Both coaches are fully equipped with Hologic high-definition 3-D mammography.

Who reads the mammograms conducted on the Mobile Mammography Coaches?

As part of our ongoing commitment to being your healthcare partner, all mammograms procured within the Mobile Mammography Program are read by the same breast imaging radiologists who evaluate mammograms within our centers. All of our breast imaging radiologists are fellowship trained, dedicated specialists, who are leaders in the field. Our team works collaboratively with patients and physicians.

What happens after my Screening Mammogram on one of the Mobile Mammography Coaches?

Now that you’ve taken charge of your health and had a screening mammogram on board one of our Mobile Mammography Coaches, the next steps are as follows:

    • Your images will be reviewed by our breast dedicated radiologist who will generate a report.
    • The report will be sent to your medical provider.
    • You will also receive a text or email from us with the results of your mammogram.
    • Should your mammogram indicate that you require additional imaging, you will be contacted with details as to how to proceed.
    • If you do not hear from someone within two weeks of your screening mammogram, please give us a call.

Can I have a mammogram on one of the Mobile Mammography Coaches if I'm experiencing breast pain?

All exams performed on board the Mobile Mammography coaches are Screening Mammograms. These are used to detect breast cancer before any symptoms are present.

If you are experiencing localized pain, a palpable lump, bleeding, discharge, or any other unusual symptoms in your breasts, you will require a Diagnostic Mammogram. This is used when symptoms are present, in order to confirm whether changes are benign (non-cancerous) or if breast cancer may be present and treatment is required.

To find a convenient location where you can receive a Diagnostic Mammogram, please browse our list of locations.

If we do not have a location that is convenient to you, please consult with your physician as to next steps. Once you have identified a location to procced with additional imaging, we will assist in transitioning your images and radiologist’s report to that facility.

Do I need a referral from a doctor to receive a mammogram on one of the Mobile Mammography Coaches?

Physician referrals are not required to receive a screening mammogram on board one of our Mobile Mammography Coaches. However, you will be asked for a healthcare provider contact where results can be sent. This information is important in the case of a finding on your mammogram and additional measures are necessary.

Is insurance accepted on board the Mobile Mammography Coaches?

Insurance coverage varies between California and Arizona.

The Mobile Mammography Coach in Arizona is contracted with all of the major insurance providers in the state.

In California, the Mobile Mammography Coach does not accept insurance at this time.

The cost for screening mammograms performed at an event that is hosted by an organization or a non-profit is covered by that foundation in both states.

What do I need to do to prepare for my mammogram on one of the Mobile Mammography Coaches?

To prepare for your mammogram on one of the Mobile Mammography Coaches, here are a few things to keep in mind so that you will have the most comfortable, accurate exam:

    • Because you will need to remove your clothing from the waist up, wearing comfortable, easy-to-remove attire is recommended.
    • It is not recommended that you apply deodorant, perfume, lotion, and other products to the underarm or torso area before your exam because they may interfere with the imaging process. However, we can supply you with a body wipe, if you need to remove any of these products prior to your screening mammogram.
    • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or suffering from any medical conditions should inform the Technologist on board the Mobile Mammography Coach prior to their screening mammogram.
    • Women with breast implants can safely receive a screening mammogram – please inform the Technologist on board the Mobile Mammography Coach if you have implants prior to your screening mammogram.

What happens if there is a finding on my mammogram received on a Mobile Mammography Coach?

The imaging you will receive on board the Mobile Mammography Coach is called a Screening Mammogram. This is used to detect breast cancer before symptoms are present. Your images will be reviewed by one of our dedicated breast radiologists, who will create a report.

If there is any need for additional imaging, we will reach out to you via phone call or text message to inform you that you require a Diagnostic Mammogram. This is used in order to confirm whether findings are benign (non-cancerous) or if breast cancer may be present and treatment is required.

You can browse our list of locations to identify a location near you for a Diagnostic Mammogram and make an appointment by calling our scheduling phone number.
